Silent agreement
it never ends the way you expect it to;
there were no screaming
no slamming doors
no fighting
mostly a silent agreement;
she leans in and sighs against his shoulder
for the last time
catching the scent of his skin
for the last time
feeling his hands tremble
for the last time
just silence,
no screaming, no slamming doors
no fighting
the boy who never said much
& the girl with too many words on her mind
took the stairs together;
said goodbye in the doorway
and walked in different directions
it never ends the way you expect it to
she whispers to herself;
holding back persistent tears
